GENERAL INFORMATION:
Ponoi river has grown to be recognized as one of the great Atlantic salmon rivers in the world today. The Ponoi River with an overall length of 250 miles is the longest river on the Kola Peninsula. With numerous lakes in the system, waterflow is very stable and remains nearly unaffected by rain or dry conditions. The river provides the opportunity to fish wading, bank casting or boat fishing, offering productive pools and the confluence of rivers and streams. Wildlife is prolific and from May through the summer the area is practically invaded by a variety of birds of all kinds from ducks and songbirds to falcon and eagles. The river is home to an amazing amount of salmon, leaving anglers astonished when they see them swim by.

The fishing starts in late May and runs through June, when the fishing results are unique. Anglers have reported as many as 75 salmon in a single day. In July, the temperature rises. So dry fly fishing has proved to be very effective. The catches are usually bigger weighing between 7 and 15 pounds, with some surprises, such as 24-pound salmon. Double-handed rods are used effectively here, but this river does not require heavy tackles.

PACKAGE:
The package runs from Saturday to Saturday and includes transportation from Murmansk to the Ponoi camp and return; 7-night accommodation; all meals, one guide each two anglers.

The daily program is as follows:
06:00 Generator starts for water pressure and other services at the camp.
07:30 Breakfast.
09:00 Fishing.
14:00 Lunch at the camp or on the river bank (depending on what has been scheduled).
19:00 Return to the camp.
20:00 Dinner.
21:00 Fishing for those who have energy. The bar is open for those who dont want to go to fish or sleep.
23:00 Generator shuts down

The packages last a week and fishing spots change after lunch so that every angler has the chance to fish the different pools. Fishing after dinner is usually around the camp. Guiding can be arranged after dinner Ponoi River operates a strict catch and release policy.

ADITIONAL INFORMATION:
The weather and the temperature are unpredictable, so we recommend taking both light and warm clothes. Temperatures may vary from 10º below zero to 28º.

A visa is required to travel to Russia. Contact the Russian Consulate close to your home for further information. You need a special invitation from Russia to apply for the visa, which we can arrange with one of our associates in our fishing operation in that country. Applying for the visa takes time, that is why we suggest starting in April.

ACCOMMODATION:
There are two alternatives: Acha Camp, situated at the junction where Acha River enters the Ponoi. The camp offers accommodation for up to 10 anglers in well-equipped wooden cabins, with comfortable beds, stoves, a new dining house, salmon bar, a fly tying corner and a sofa. The other camp is called Pacha camp and is situated just upstream Acha Camp. The fishing is more or less the same. It accommodates up to 10 anglers and the cabbins are more luxurious than the ones in Acha Camp, with twin beds and heated by stoves. In July and early August a program combining accommodation in both Acha and Pacha camps can be organized, with 80 kilometers of river to fish.
